During the fourth week of the Independent Study Mentorship class, some of the key accomplishments that were achieved were making phone calls to cardiothoracic surgeons and also other forms of doctor in the field, creating a final resume, and also scheduling interviews with the professionals. Also, another achievement that has been accomplishment is deeper knowledge and becoming more familiar with the field of cardiology and surgery. This week the Independent Study Mentorship students started to make calls to their corresponding career professionals. Personally, I made seventeen calls to various different careers in cardiology. The first person contacted was Dr. Liddicoat, who is currently retired, so an interview could not be set up. The second surgeon contacted was Dr. Christian Moncrief, who was on a leave of absence, so an interview could not be set up. Next, I called multiple cardiothoracic surgeons, including Dr. Katherine Harrington, Dr.Michael Mack, Dr.Jett, Dr.Ryan, Dr. Hutcheson, Dr.Brinkman, and Dr. Bruce Lytle, who all are affiliated with the Baylor Heart Hospital at Plano. The next class period, some of the surgeons that were contacted were Dr. Tea Acuff, Dr.Eric Tung Chang, and Dr. Richard Bowman. Fortunately, an interview with Dr. Richard Bowman was able to be scheduled for October 19th at 2:00. This is brief summary of contacting professional during the 4th week of the ISM program. Another accomplishment mad during this week is creating a resume. Creating resume was a slight challenge because of categorization, organization, and choosing a proper color scheme that compliments the topic of your field of study. After multiple edits and peer/personal evaluations, a successful resume was created. This week, a big succession was being able to schedule an interview with a cardiothoracic surgeon, as well as creating the a professional resume. Some goals that I aspire to achieve next week are to learn the differences in some forms of cardiology, such as invasive cardiology, pediatric cardiology, cardiovascular surgery and cardiothoracic surgery.
