During the week of October 10 to October 16 some of the key points that we learned in our Independent Study Mentorship class were how to write S.M.A.R.T. goals, obtaining more interviews, and also continuing to research our chosen topics. The first accomplishment I achieved this week was properly assessing what goals I have for the Independent Study Mentorship class, and how to achieve them. S.M.A.R.T. goals stands for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. These goals helped the class get organized and have a skeleton structure for what the year will look like, our time limits for the assignments to be completed, slightly unrealistic goals that can be worked hard towards so that they can be attained, and lastly giving us a new perspective on how to make a potential future final project. The seconds objective of this week was to continue making calls to business professionals and gaining interviews. Unfortunately I have not gotten any more interviews, but with perseverance I am sure to get a few more. Lastly, this week there was a lot more research on cardiothoracic surgery done. In the prior weeks, the research done was on the more extensive procedures of cardiothoracic surgery, but this week the topics studied were angioplasty, catheterization and stents. These topics are the more basic procedures, and the techniques used in these are the foundation of those used in the more extensive procedures, such as removal of massive aneurysms. This week I was successful in outlining my path for the rest of the year and also establishing my strengths and working to improve my weaknesses. I think that throughout the first nine weeks of the Independent Study Mentorship Program I have benefitted greatly by becoming more comfortable and outgoing to talk to new people, as well as keeping organized and establishing a set routine for my daily work agenda. Next week, I hope to have at least two more interviews scheduled, attend my first interview, and also work ahead to keep up with the workload that ISM provides us with. Also, this week I i'll be researching open heart surgeries to enhance my knowledge in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.
