During the week of September 4 to September 10, the key points to be noted included the making the first call and correspondence contact list sheet, remaking my website, and completing the first assessment of the Independent Study and Mentorship 2 program.
The main accomplishment of this week included remaking my entire website from last year with a new web designer and animation themes. It took me about seven hours to do, but I believe that my new website is much more aesthetically pleasing and professional than the one I created last year. Another accomplishment this week was completing my first research assessment of the year on mitral valve chordae repair. This was an accomplishment because I navigated to a different region of the heart and learned about a new a new condition that is slightly rare in occurrence of the human population. After researching this condition, I ask myself the question: What conditions are out there that are not well researched because they are so rare? I hope to continue researching and working towards answering this question.
Along with these accomplishments, I struggled with collectively creating another call and correspondence contact list that differed from last year. This is because my goal this year is to interview a few professionals that pertain to, but are not exactly cardiothoracic surgeons. The professionals that I found who I am interested in interviewing are located at quite a distance from Frisco, such as Dallas, Garland and the other side of Denton. Another reason that this list was hard to create was because most surgeons simply don’t have the time to talk to a high school student, so I focused on many private practices and those with good ratings on google who are willing to give me some guiding advice for the future.
In the next few weeks, I want to continue researching different aspects of cardiothoracic surgery that don’t primarily relate to the aortic valve and aorta.
