THE ONE WITH THE PUBLICATION

During the week of October 9 to October 15, the key highlights in the Independent Study and Mentorship class included scheduling an interview, writing my first interview assessment of the year, and also getting confirmation that the publication draft I wrote for last year’s ISM final product is getting officially published in the next two weeks.

Some of the accomplishments of this week includes getting another informational interview with Dr. Angela Scheuerle, a medical geneticist at Children's Medical Center in Dallas. Through this interview, I will be gaining valuable information about genetics and DNA structure, a field of medicine that differs significantly from cardiothoracic surgery. I am hoping to gain ideas from this interview that I can potentially use for my final product.

Another accomplishment of this week included getting confirmation from the Engineering and Science Technology: An International Journal about my publication draft being published. This has been an ongoing project since February 2017, and about nine months later, my final paper on the fluid mechanics of aortic valves is getting published.

With this accomplishments, I am still facing the challenge of scheduling more interviews with medical professionals. In the upcoming week, I want to schedule at least one more interview as well as brainstorm ideas for my original work.
