During the week of November 6 to the November 12, some of the main events that occurred was analyzing my interview with Dr. Angela Scheuerle, a medical geneticist at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. Along with writing an interview assessment, I also presented my research speech to the class for the first time.
Some of the accomplishments of this week was included presenting the research speech. By doing so, I was able to gather all my thoughts together and present and showcase my learning to my peers and Mr. Speice. I was happy with the way that I presented because even though I lost my place in my notecards, I realized that I am actually not that depended on having my speech written out in front of me. This is definitely an improvement from last year, where I would be dependent on my note cards for almost every other sentence, which would make me sound unnatural. I have improved in public speaking overall, which means that I met my goal of last year, and will continue improving myself throughout this year.
Along with these accomplishments, I am facing some difficulties getting more informational interviews as well as getting approval from Baylor Heart Hospital to continue my mentorship with Dr. Brinkman. Human resources is experiencing major delays in in processing my observation paperwork, so I will be contacting them to check on my status this week.
In the upcoming week, I hope to begin drafting my original work proposal as well as research more about rare cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
