During the week of November 27 to December 3, some of the key achievements in the Independent Study and Mentorship 2 program is the completion of the first ISM conference with Mr. Speice, evaluating our research speeches, and finally getting approval from Human Resources at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano for surgical visitations with Dr. Brinkman in the operating room.

After presenting each of our speeches, the ISM students always complete a self evaluation of their presentation to assess their strong and weak points. After doing so, I believe that some of the aspects of my speech that I should continue to work on include stuttering, walking around in an awkward manner, and also knowing exactly when to change my slides as per my speech. However, I do believe that I have good research and content that showcases my learning throughout the year so far.

As far as difficulties go, one of the only ones that I am facing is getting another interview with a medical professional. I have left multiple messages with the surgeon’s secretaries, but am having difficulty with getting any calls back.

Over the next couple of weeks, I hope to continue learning and researching various sutures for my original work project. Also, I will begin brainstorming more ideas for my final product.
