During the week of December 4th to December 10th thing, the main accomplishments with the independent study and mentorship program included reflecting on my previous interview with Dr. David Moore, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano with the means of an interview assessment. Also, I began to research more about the different types of sutures, trying to figure out which ones I would like to learn for my original work project, which will be creating a book analyzing the various types of sutures I learn.

The interview assessment helped me reflect on college majors and alternative routes to becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon. I learned about the possibilities that traveling abroad and performing pro-bono surgical cases can do to enhance both personal as well as professional knowledge.

However, a difficulty that I have been facing is getting another interview with a medical professional. Most of the hospitals that I have contacted has taken my contact information and told me that they will contact me back. After following up, they have told me the same thing. I hope to contact more professionals in the near future so that I can obtain some more informational interviews.

Over the next couple of weeks, I hope to continue learning and researching various sutures for my original work project. Also, I will begin brainstorming more ideas for my final product.
