During the week of January 8 to January 14, the main accomplishments in the second year of the Independent Study and Mentorship program included progression of the original work as well as completing the board for the annual FISD Research Showcase.

As the original work deadline is coming up soon, I have been working diligently to get the maximum potential of it as I can. I was able to practice all of the sutures three times, which definitely helped in the memorization of each suture technique. Along with learning various suture techniques, I have been learning about surgical preparation that goes into pre-operational and post-operational of a patient. This includes the patient being draped and sanitized, which ar part of the basics that all medical professionals, not only cardiothoracic surgeons need to know.

Along with original work, I have been busy creating my my ISM board for Research Showcase. This event is where all of the ISM students in the district come together to showcase the first semester’s work.

In the future, I hope to begin working on my final product ideas, so that I can come up with a plan and execute it during the second semester. Also, I would like to continue going on mentor visits and research various cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
