During the week of January 15 to January 21, the main accomplishments that happened in the second year of the Independent Study and Mentorship program included the annual Frisco ISD Research Showcase and further progression with my original work.
The Frisco ISD Research Showcase is an event sponsored by the Dallas Cowboys at the Ford Star Center. This year, I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by the City of Frisco and The Frisco Chamber of Commerce, which was an amazing opportunity, as I got to talk about my experiences and how ISM has shaped me as a person over the past two years. Along with the interview, the showcase was a huge success with the amount of crowd that came to support the student’s work. It was an honor to have been part of this program for two years, and I sure am going to miss being an ISM student next year when I graduate.
As the original work deadline is coming up soon, I have been working diligently to get the maximum potential of it as I can. I was able to practice all of the sutures three times, which definitely helped in the memorization of each suture technique. Along with learning various suture techniques, I have been learning about surgical preparation that goes into pre-operational and post-operational of a patient. This includes the patient being draped and sanitized, which are part of the basics that all medical professionals, not only cardiothoracic surgeons need to know.
Over the next few weeks, I hope to continue brainstorming and finding a good idea for my final project. Also, I would like to begin practicing my original work speech.
