During the week of January 22 to January 28, the main accomplishments that occurred in the Independent Study and Mentorship Year 2 program included the completion of my original work, reflecting on my original work, and analyzing a previous mentor visit conducted with Dr. Brinkman.

After several months of learning and analyzing sutures as well as surgical preparation skills, my original work was finally completed. Throughout the last week, I have reflected on every aspect of my original work that I worked on, and wrote an original work assessment that can guide anyone who wants to look at the procedure that I took for my work.

Along with the original work assessment, I completed a surgical mentor visit assessment based on the Ross Procedure, which is a cardiothoracic surgical procedure that I was able to observe in the operating room. By reflecting on this procedure, I was able to compare the visit to other mentor visits that I had, and ruled out this procedure to be the most rare, tense and complex procedure observed as of this time.

In the future, I hope to begin working on my final product ideas, so that I can come up with a plan and execute it during the second semester. Also, I would like to continue going on mentor visits and research various cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
